Formidling av vikingtiden. En studie av hobbyvikinger, Lofotr Vikingfestival og bruken av forskningsbasert kunnskap
The theme of my master thesis is Viking re-enactors, Viking festivals and the archaeological record. My primary goal of the study is to throw light upon how Viking re-enactors at Viking markets and festivals use results from the archaeological record in their clothes and equipment, how the Viking period are interpreted in the Viking festival at Lofotr Viking Museum, and in which way these Viking re-enactors can change and manipulate the history. My study concerns the Viking festival held at Lofotr Viking Museum (August 5th – 9th, 2009). The result of the study shows that the Viking re-enactors use primarily clothes and equipment from rich graves. In this way they symbolize persons with power and wealth. This means that Viking festivals and Viking re-enactors keep the myth alive, and make people believe this is how it was. A Viking festival contributes in this level to a nostalgic market. On the other hand the Viking festival contributes to knowledge production by teaching people about the handcraft from the Viking period, and also let people interact with experimental archaeology, which indeed is a good thing.MAHF-ARKARK35

Law after July 22, 2011: Survivors, Memory and Reconstruction
Source at https://www.prio.org/publications/12987.While the criminal law and security governance aspects of the July 22 terror attack in Norway have been extensively analyzed in the academic literature, much less attention has been given to processes involving civil law, legal mobilization and legal-bureaucratic processes.
The slow workings of the law mean that the aftermath of July 22 is still unfolding in different legal processes. This PRIO paper carves out a socio-legal research agenda intended to bridge the aforementioned knowledge gap. In so doing, it identifies various aspects of how the law deals with survivors, their families and the bereaved. It also addresses the legal debates over memorials and the reconstruction and securitization of the Norwegian Government Quarter. We argue that in choosing between extraordinary and ordinary legal mechanisms and instruments to deal with the terror attack, the state and the legal system have opted for the latter.
This emphasis on “ordinary law” must be investigated. We are interested in how law distributes resources, rights and identities and sets limits on government interventions – and how individual actors and organizations mobilize the law to shape the political, popular and legal narratives around July 22
Miniaturized fluorescent RNA dot blot method for rapid quantitation of gene expression
BACKGROUND: RNA dot blot hybridization is a commonly used technique for gene expression assays. However, membrane based RNA dot/slot blot hybridization is time consuming, requires large amounts of RNA, and is less suited for parallel assays of more than one gene at a time. Here, we describe a glass-slide based miniaturized RNA dot blot (RNA array) procedure for rapid and parallel gene expression analysis using fluorescently labeled probes. RESULTS: RNA arrays were prepared by simple manual spotting of RNA onto amino-silane coated microarray glass slides, and used for two-color fluorescent hybridization with specific probes labeled with Cy3 and 18S ribosomal RNA house-keeping gene probe labeled with Cy5 fluorescent dyes. After hybridization, arrays were scanned on a fluorescent microarray scanner and images analyzed using microarray image analysis software. We demonstrate that this method gives comparable results to Northern blot analysis, and enables high throughput quantification of transcripts from nanogram quantities of total RNA in hundreds of samples. CONCLUSION: RNA array on glass slide and detection by fluorescently labeled probes can be used for rapid and parallel gene expression analysis. The method is particularly well suited for gene expression assays that involve quantitation of many transcripts in large numbers of samples
